Resorbable threads

Aesthetic facial retouches are getting softer thanks to medical innovations. The treatment, which applies ‘resorbable threads’ to the skin of the face, neck and décolleté, weaves a transparent support mesh by lifting and repositioning the tissues. Thanks to a non-surgical, light and natural lifting effect, it is possible to reshape structures, shapes and volumes, making the appearance younger and enhancing the strengths of female beauty. Today, studies on the technique of reabsorbable threads are very advanced: bio-compatible in nature, they are made of PDO (polydioxanone), a material that has been used for many years in surgical suture thread technology, there are different types and for all skin types.

There are different types of threads: Mono (smooth bio-revitalising threads), Barbed (with fine whiskers for greater tightness) or Screw (with an ellipsoidal shape for greater traction, like a screw).

The choice is made by the physician according to the requirements of the area to be treated..

Aesthetic defects and solutions

An alternative to conventional plastic surgery is the ‘light lift’: a non-invasive solution to combat the signs of ageing. Through resorbable threads, which with their texture restore the tissues to where they were before they lost turgidity and elasticity, it is possible to correct defects such as

wrinkles
aged skin
sagging tissues

The application of the threads, without altering facial expressions or features, makes it possible to redefine not only the face or neck, but also individual anatomical structures such as the mandibular, zygomatic and periorbital, supra- and sub-mentonary areas. The effects of the treatment concern contour definition, traction of the affected areas and reduction of skin folds for general renewal and rejuvenation.

Treatment preparation

In the ritual specialist visit preceding the treatment, doctor and patient discuss expectations and results. The surgeon determines whether the patient’s needs can be met with the resorbable thread technique or whether alternative or complementary solutions are desirable.

The aesthetic medicine treatment

The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis and takes approximately 20 to 40 minutes (depending on the type of procedure and the amount of threads to be inserted). Depending on the individual case, the doctor determines whether local sedation (using an anaesthetic cream) is necessary or not. No incisions are made. The doctor marks the patient’s face with a dermographic pencil to outline the areas to be treated and inserts the very thin needles containing the threads (the number of which varies from 4 to 10). The operation is minimally invasive and bearable: the threads are introduced into the skin, form the tissue support weft, stimulate collagen production, reawaken micro-circulation and oxygenate the epidermis in its deepest layers. At the end of the session, there may be sporadic episodes of redness that can be resolved in a few minutes or some bruising.

Healing times

At the end of the session, the patient can resume normal activities immediately. The post-treatment phase varies depending on factors pertaining to the individual characteristics of each subject (age, degree of tissue ageing and relaxation, quality and quantity of the treated area). It is desirable to avoid saunas, sports activities and exposure to direct sunlight for a couple of weeks. The results will be visible immediately and will definitely stabilise within 15 days. The ‘life’ of the threads lasts about 6-10 months, but the results are prolonged over time thanks to the fibrotic memory of the deep tissue that the thread leaves behind after reabsorption. It is however possible to repeat the treatment.
